July 23, 1943 - Dec. 17, 2024
Brenda Jacquline Avant, lovingly known as “Jacque,” passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the age of 81.
Born on July 23, 1943, Jacque grew up cherishing life’s simple joys and dedicated her life to making a difference in the lives of others.
In 1961, she married the love of her life, Ralph Larry Avant, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned more than six decades. Jacque retired after nearly 20 years of service as a Magistrate Clerk at the Bibb County Courthouse, where she was respected and admired by colleagues and friends alike.
Jacque’s love for animals, particularly dogs, defined her later years. She was a founder of A Paw and A Prayer in Jones County, passionately rescuing, fostering, and transporting dogs to their forever homes.
Jacque’s advocacy played a critical role in the establishment of a new animal shelter in Jones County, and her tireless work inspired countless others to support rescue efforts. Though an injury recently forced her to step back, her legacy of compassion continues through the dedicated rescue family she leaves behind.
It is comforting to imagine Jacque being greeted at heaven’s gates by the many dogs whose lives she touched, their tails wagging in gratitude. Jacque was also a proud member of the History and Heritage Group, cherishing the stories and traditions that shaped her community. Yet, above all else, her favorite title was “Grandma.” She adored her grandsons and took immense pride in her great-grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought her boundless joy. Jacque is survived by her devoted husband, Ralph Larry Avant; her loving children, Larry Todd Avant and Kimberly Ann Avant; her cherished grandsons, Dustin (Kayla) Avant, Dylan Avant, and James “Bud” (Chelsea) Ingram and her precious great-grandchildren, Emberly Avant and Hollis Avant.
Jacque’s life was one of love, compassion, and service. Her absence leaves a void that will never be filled, but her memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday December 21, at Gray Memorial Chapel at 1:00 p.m. One hour prior to the service was visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jones County Animal Shelter or your local animal shelter, honoring Jacque’s enduring passion for giving animals a second chance at life.
Gray Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Avant family during this time of loss. Online condolences may be shared at graymemorialchapel. com.
