Volley Hounds seeing plenty of enthusiasm heading into summer

GREYHOUND VOLLEYBALL

Some 50 players took the court last week to serve the ball up at Gray Station Middle School.

The goal? Three days’ worth of tryouts for Jones County High School’s volleyball coaches to get a strong look at those seeking spots on next season’s varsity and junior varsity rosters.

“We’ve just been working on setting, passing and serving,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Leah Bodnarchuk said.

“We’ve been getting a look at where everyone fits, whether it’s JV or varsity, and just running a lot of drills and seeing what they have.”

Enthusiasm was aplenty, something that the Lady Hounds coaches came away from last week excited about headed toward the summer.

“It’s been electric.

They’ve really bought in and are showing lots of enthusiasm,” Bodnarchuk said. “They’ve shown lots of improvement since last year.”

Up and down the court, the Volley Hounds coaches that also include Amanda Mercer and Kelly Roberson were able to evaluate players’ strengths and weaknesses.

“We’ve played a lot of games like speed ball, queen of the court and 6-on-6,” Bodnarchuk said. “We’ve been changing things around and seeing what they can do.”
