Running from law enforcement whether in a car or on foot turned out not to be a good decision for a Macon man.
Warrick Wayne McElroy, 35, was arrested June 2 on multiple traffic charges, including reckless driving, speeding, suspended license and registration, tinted windshield and tag cover, use of drug-related objects in addition to fleeing or attempting to elude police officers and obstruction.
His arrest was announced on the Jones County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, complete with a video of the chase and his apprehension. A report of McElroy’s arrest by JCSO Deputy Richard Langston states he was on patrol on Pioneer Road when he saw a red Mercedes with a tinted windshield and license plate cover.

He turned around and caught up with the car in order to conduct a traffic stop. When the deputy activated his lights, instead of stopping, the Mercedes sped up.
The deputy initiated his siren, and the driver started passing vehicles despite other vehicles coming in the other direction. Langston said he driver’s speed hit 100 and then 115 mph. The Mercedes continued to cut in and out of traffic, almost rear-ending more than one vehicle.
After attempting to cause Langston to hit the rear of the car, the driver attempted a sharp turn into a driveway on Parker Drive and drove into the yard instead. At that point the driver fled on foot.
JCSO Sgt. Travis Walker and Deputy Brown arrived to assist with searching the area. An anonymous tip, however, pinpointed the suspect location under a house, where he was apprehended.
The driver was taken into custody and identified as McElroy. Langston noted a strong odor of alcohol during a search of the suspect. Warrants were subsequently secured for his arrest.
Sheriff Butch Reece stated his appreciation of the safe resolution to the situation on the Facebook post.
“Thank you to all the deputies involved—and to the community member who helped us locate the suspect, your support makes a difference,” he said.
