Charles Ray Carter was born July 21, 1938, in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Emma Hess and William Carter. Not long after graduating high school, he married the love of his life, Betty Lou Coleman. The two were blessed to spend 47 years together, many of which were in Jones County. Here, they built a family and formed roots within the community, namely New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Carter was also a Master Mason.
Having dedicated years to service and commitment, he earned this final and highest honor in Freemasonry. While Mr. Carter will certainly be missed, there is a sense of peace knowing he is reunited with Ms. Betty Lou once again.
Charles dutifully served his country, beginning with his enlistment into the United States Air Force in October of 1961.
After his discharge, he built a career in civil service at Robins Air Force Base conducting non-destructive testing. He retired in 2003 and had since enjoyed dedicating his time to gardening, bowling, spending time with family, and regularly dining at Ole Times. Never forgetting his birthplace, he was an avid University of Kentucky fan. He could often be found sporting their signature blue and cheering on his Wildcats.
Season after season, Charles could be found teaching the next generation to say, “Go Big Blue!”.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Carter; daughter, Lisa Albrycht; and siblings, James Carter; Robert Carter; Michael Carter, Loraine Carter Thacker, and Christine Thacker. Mr. Carter is survived by his son, Jimmy Carter (Dale); grandchildren, Ashley McWilliams (Jason), Alisha Blair (Jason), Rusty Albrycht, and Ryan Albrycht, and great-grandchildren, Zoe and Kaylin Blair.
Additionally, he is survived by a brother, Richard Carter and sisters, Bonnie Tucker (Louie) and Brenda Talbert (Jay).
