Ida Kay Vaughn Watson

Ida Kay Vaughn Watson, age 86, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025, with her son by her side.

Born on April 2, 1939, in Bartow, Florida, she lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and quiet strength.

Kay was a faithful and longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she sang joyfully in the church choir. Her voice, spirit, and heart were steady lights in the lives of all who knew her. Those who loved her will remember her as a selfless and resourceful woman, someone who gave generously of herself, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her greatest joys were her family, shared meals, and the warmth of togetherness. Whether she was playing ghost with her grandchildren, laughing with childlike delight, or preparing a beloved dish for a family gathering, Kay’s love was deeply felt in the smallest of gestures. She believed in perseverance, modeled unwavering work ethic, and lived by an honest and faithful legacy that continues to shape the generations she leaves behind.

She is survived by her loving son, Thomas L.

Vaughn (Diane); stepchildren, Alan Watson, Kathy Baggett (Gary), and Diane Landers; grandchildren, Taylor Sutton (Jason), Jennifer Vaughn, and Jamey Vaughn; seven great-grandchildren; her niece, Connie Merrill; and her nephew, Tommy Taylor.

Kay was predeceased by her husbands, James Marvin Vaughn, Sr. and Robert Wallace Watson; her dear son, James Marvin Vaughn, Jr.; grandson, Richard Wayne “Duke” Vaughn; and her brothers, Thomas Farrell Taylor, Sr. and Frank Wayne Taylor. She was the cherished daughter of Marvin and Annie Pleasants Taylor, whose loving foundation she carried forward throughout her life.

A visitation was held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel and Crematory, 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia 31032. A Celebration of Life service followed at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. John Haney. Interment took place at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens.
