James (Sonny) Clayton King

James (Sonny) Clayton King passed away Friday, December 27, 2024, unexpectedly at Piedmont Healthcare. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in the chapel of Gray Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service.

The Rev. Carol Mora officiated. Interment followed in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Greene Settlement Road, Gray, Georgia 31032.

Born on, November 11, 1940, to the late James Rex King and Annie Laurie Cole in Macon, Georgia.

Sonny was also preceded in death by his wife, Brandi Hale King, brother, Larry Cecil King and special friend Joy Elrod.

He was retired from Louis Dreyfus with a distinguished career in the petroleum industry. Sonny was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was an active member of the Sardis Church. Sonny was bigger than life with a gigantic personality that loved to help people. He was one of those special kindhearted individuals that enjoyed paying it forward. He would give you the shirt off his back. Sonny was a man’s man that enjoyed the outdoors which included deer hunting, NASCAR racing, and the old dirt track racing. He especially enjoyed the trips to Daytona with his son Mike. His legacy as an “Old School Guy” as someone who was traditional and does things the way they’ve been done in the past and believed in honor in public life will forever bring comfort to those who knew him best.

Sonny is survived by his son, Mike King, siblings, Connie King Styons, Russell Murry King, and Don Andrew King (Jenny).
