James Stanford “Stan” Thornton

James Stanford “Stan” Thornton, 83, of Gray, GA, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel with the Reverend Jerry Dorriety officiating. The family greeted friends before the service from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Son of the late Stanford and Fontella Sharpe Thornton, Mr. Thornton was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from Georgia Power after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Andrews Christian Church. He enjoyed watching westerns, football, golfing, and NASCAR racing.

Mr. Thornton was a prankster and got a kick out of joking and pranking people. He loved spending time with family, especially his wife before her passing in 2021.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Janelle Henderson Thornton and sister, Sherri Thornton.

Mr. Thornton is survived by his sons, Tim Thornton of Gray and Chris Thornton (Belinda) of Macon; grandchildren, Jennifer Morris (Tony) of Gray, Jamie Thornton (Dori) of Gray, Madison Hughes and McKenzie Rogers of Gray, Nikki Stephens of Macon, Melisa Thompson (Nick) of Jackson, Georgia, Jamie Stephens (Crystal) of Jesup, Georgia and Doug Turner (Stacey) of Macon; great grandchildren, Kyler Morris of Gray, Desirae Willis, Mylee Willis, and Jr.

Willis, all of Macon, Andrew McCary, Alex McCary, and Amelia Thompson, all of Jackson, Leanna Powell of Macon, Bentley and Brooklyn Turner of Macon, and Ciara, Bryce, and Tatum Stephens of Gray; brother, Eddie Thornton (Voncille) of Grayson, Georgia; long-time best friend, Christy Foskey and family of Gray; and beloved dog, Bruno.
