James Wesley “Jim” Garland

James Wesley “Jim” Garland, age 96, of Milledgeville, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023. A Celebration of Life for Jim Garland will be conducted Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Milledgeville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mac Enfinger officiating. The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.

A native of Cuthbert, GA, Jim was born on February 21, 1927, to the late James Garland and the late Mattie Nichols Garland. In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his wife, Macye Branyan Garland, by a son, Michael Calvin Garland, and by his brother, Roy Elliott Garland. Jim was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

Upon completion of his military service, Jim graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science Degree. After a long career in Pharmacy and selling his pharmacy, he and his wife retired to the lake. Jim just couldn’t seem to let the pharmacy go, so he continued to work part time until the age of 89.

He finally retired for the last time from Oconee Regional Mental Health.

Jim loved his Lord, his Family, his Country, and his churches, Gray Methodist Church and Milledgeville First United Methodist Church….and of course, the Georgia Bulldogs.

Jim is survived by his son, James H. (Ginny) Garland of Gray; his sister, Violet Garland Hewitt of Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Ben C. Garland of New Mexico, Whit S. Nichols Garland (Trey) of Stone Mountain, Lance W.

Rackley (Laura) of Gray, and Derek M.

Rackley of Forsyth; his great-grandsons, Ian W.

Nichols Garland, James W. Rackley, John M.

Rackley, and Morgan Rackley; his sistersin- law, Ann Garland of Dawson, GA and Mae Branyan of McRae, GA; his brother-in-law, Bruce Anderson of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
