Kathy Jane King Chapman

February 13, 1951 - July 4, 2023

Kathy Jane King Chapman, 72, of Brunswick, Georgia, went to her heavenly home on July 4, 2023. She was born in Macon, Georgia.

Kathy had retired after a long and productive career with the U. S.

Department of Interior in Round Oak, Georgia, with the Department of Interior in Brunswick, Georgia, and with FLETC in Glynn County, Georgia. She survived her devoted father, W. E. King, Jr., who died in 1998, and her sweet mother, Frankie Bridges King, who lost her battle with cancer in 1974. In addition to her husband of 37 years, Mike Chapman, Kathy is survived by all three of her siblings: her sister, Sue King Speir of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her brother, Bert King of Gray, Georgia; and her brother, John Frank King of Middletown, Virginia.

Kathy loved her sisters in law and brother-in-law as she did her siblings. Her surviving in laws are Scott Speir (Sue), Cindy King (Bert), and Wanda King (John). Her sister Sue went above and beyond helping Mike with Kathy’s care. Although Kathy loved and doted on all her nephews and nieces, she had a special bond with Susannah Speir Lyle, who spent a lot of time with Kathy and Mike on the Georgia coast during the summers. Kathy’s other nieces and nephews are Sue’s other children: Molly Owens, Barrett Speir and Dr. Ethan Speir, Bert’s children: Katie King Nikitin, Adam King, Anna King and Joshua King, and John’s children: Isaiah King, Elijah King, and Alanna King.

Kathy graduated Salutatorian from Peters Township High School in Pennsylvania where her father had been transferred from Macon by his long-time employer, Ralston Purina Company.

She started her college education at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, and received her Bachelor of Science degree from her beloved alma mater, the University of Georgia. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Wildlife Management from UGA.

Kathy and Mike had a long and happy marriage.

They especially enjoyed loving, raising, spoiling and showing their beloved registered cocker spaniels. The awards both Kathy and Mike received with their cockers are too numerous to list. Like Mike, Kathy was also an avid bird and butterfly watcher.

Kathy was a faithful member of St. Simon’s Presbyterian Church.

Kathy had a life well lived. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, a wonderful sister, and a sweet and compassionate aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
