Lona Mae Carmichael

Lona Mae Carmichael passed away on Friday evening, June 2, 2023, at Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington, Georgia surrounded by her loving family. A visitation for family and friends was held Tuesday evening, June 6, 2023, at Gray Memorial Chapel 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service was held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Houston Road Macon, Georgia with the Rev. Andy Huff officiating. Lona was born on October 11, 1933, in Fort Payne, Alabama to the late William Clarence Evatt and Nancy Oleva Wooten.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband James Francis Carmichael, son, Dwight Carmichael, brothers, William, Thomas, James, Cecil and Amos Evatt, and sister, Shirley (Velva) Peek and Willodean Jones.

Lona was retired from Keebler Company after thirty-one years of service. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She was hard working which she learned from her early life growing up on a farm. Lona was a dedicated Mom to her seven children and kept and baby sat many neighborhood children. She loved her church family dearly.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, sons, Danny (Vickie), Donnie (Teresa), David (Mary), Joseph (Sherra), Jeff (Connie) Carmichael, and daughter, Janice (Kevin) Savage.

A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted by the family.
