Luke Hillyer Thornton, age 44, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on April 5, 1979, in Macon, Georgia to Sam and Joan Thornton. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Frances Thornton and Robert & Margaret Wells.

He is survived by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Melanie Thornton of Winder, Georgia, sister and brother-in-law, Leigh and James Cunningham of Newnan, Georgia, niece, Ashlyn Thornton, and nephews, Colton Thornton, Jackson Cunningham, Bradley Cunningham and Grandfather George Thornton of Gray, Georgia. He was a proud graduate of the University of Georgia.

Luke worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. Some of his favorite things were transformers, Sci-Fi shows and movies, Star Wars, and DragonCon. He loved his niece and nephews, and they were the light of his life, and he was always there whenever there was an event to celebrate them. He enjoyed spending time with his family and researching genealogy. He was the tech guru for everyone in his family who relied on him to fix problems when things weren’t working right. He loved artwork and photography and was usually the one behind the lens instead of in the pictures. He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church.

The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to Emory University Hospital Neuro-ICU Facility Fund at together.emory.edu as they were beneficial in him being a miracle after his first aneurysm seven years ago.

Serving as pallbearers were: Robert Thornton, John Thornton, Tommy Thornton, Clayton Thornton, Ethan Thornton, Will Thornton, Logan Thornton, Jordan Thornton, Mitch Lovick, Murray Maxwell, Matt Godwin, Brandon Pierce, Aaron Arnett, Michael Davis, David Young and John Miller.
