Mrs. Phyllis Giddens, 74, of Gray, Georgia, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024. Funeral services were at Hart’s Mortuary Cherry Street Chapel, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11:00AM, with Pastor Brennan Jackson officiating. The family greeted friends one hour prior to the service. Interment at Riverside Cemetery followed the service.
Phyllis was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late James Hembree and Rachel Lyles. She graduated in 1967 from Inman High School in South Carolina. Phyllis had a 15-year career working as a life insurance agent with Life of Georgia. She met her future husband, John, in 1988, and they were married the next year. Phyllis and John enjoyed traveling together and visited many places including Hawaii, St.
Thomas Island, and Las Vegas. A creative and capable woman, she played the piano and the guitar, was a talented painter and interior designer. Phyllis loved music and history, and she was a great cook. She was a faithful Christian and a ten-year member of Roundway Baptist Church. Phyllis will be remembered for her generous and loving heart and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her sister, Rena Stanley. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Giddens; son, Richard Dotherow, of Macon, Georgia; son, Michael Giddens (Heather) of Gray; son, Daniel Giddens (Taylor) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, Garrett Dotherow, Lily Nolan, Blaiklee Giddens; brother, Rocky Henbree; niece, Dawn Poole of Martinez, Georgia; many greatnieces and nephews; and aunts, Grace McAbee and Faye Coley of Campobello, South Carolina.
