Stephen “Wayne” Meeks

Stephen “Wayne” Meeks, born on August 28, 1947, in Macon, Georgia, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. A man known for his unwavering integrity, hard work, and fairness, Wayne was deeply respected and loved by all who knew him.

Wayne dedicated his professional life to the kaolin industry, working as a millwright for Imerys. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry.

Proudly serving his country, Wayne was a member of the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1972. During his service, he received several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.

His military service was a source of great pride, reflecting his deep love for his country.

Wayne’s greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his beloved daughter: Stephanie M. Jordan, and cherished granddaughters; Destiny Zimmerman, Brooke Jordan, and Savannah (Jackson) Williams. His legacy also includes his two great-grandsons; Tate and Brinson Zimmerman. He is survived by his sister; Betty M. Hadden of Northridge, California, several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Ferris and Judy Webb.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Gordon Meeks, and his brother, Robert (Bobby) Meeks.

A visitation was held on June 4, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel. The memorial service took place on June 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Josh Echols. Interment followed at Macon Memorial Park, located at 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, Georgia. Jayce Oliver, Hal Webb, Trey Webb, Brint Zimmerman, Jackson Williams and Jake Knowles will serve as pallbearers.

Wayne’s life was a testament to dedication, honor, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
