Virginia Burnley Griffin, 91, of Gray, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Virginia was born on March 8, 1934, in Powelton, Georgia. She graduated as valedictorian of Sparta High School before attending Georgia State College for Women. A lifelong learner and lover of Georgia history, she found joy in gardening, reading, quilting, and playing the piano. She was known for her tenacious spirit, intelligence, and sentimentality touching the lives of all who knew her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Binion Griffin, and her parents, Alec and Mary Fannie Burnley. She is survived by her son, Ken (Denise) Griffin; grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Wilcox and Jamie (Chris) Pass; and great-grandchildren, Emma Claire Wilcox, Pryor Kate Pass, and Ellie Grace Pass.
The family received friends on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel and Crematory, 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia. A private graveside service will be held at Powelton Community Cemetery.
Her family is especially grateful for the compassionate care provided by Kim Somrow and the staff at Autumn Lane Health and Rehabilitation.
