William James “Jimmy” Burchfield, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 7, 2025, at Autumn Lane Rehabilitation, surrounded by the love of his devoted children.

A memorial service will be held Thursday evening, August 14, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Greg Thompson will officiate.

Jimmy was born November 25, 1933, in Churchill, Tennessee, to the late Charles Blaine and Bessie Myers Burchfield.

He grew up in a large, close-knit family and was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Marie Parker, Audrey Poe, Winifred Pratt, Kathryn Fleming, Bernice Becker, Martha Taub, and Shirley Wade; and brothers, John David Burchfield, Charles Burchfield Jr., and Reuben Burchfield.

He is survived by his loving children, Kara Lynn Hunnicutt, Audra Camille (Joe) Dugan, Wesley (Mary) Burchfield, and Kimberly (Ivy) Smith; six cherished grandchildren; and six adored great-grandchildren.

Jimmy was a man whose character spoke louder than any words could.

Kind, funny, friendly, intelligent, generous, and thoughtful, he carried himself with a gentle spirit and a humble heart.

He was selfless, patient, compassionate, and supportive—always ready to lend a hand or offer comfort. Resilient in life’s challenges and deeply devoted to his family, Jimmy lived to serve others.

He was never happier than when he was working with his hands, fixing, building, and creating. A natural problem solver, he was always busy doing, helping, giving. Jimmy’s joy came from making others happy, and he often did without so that no one else would have to.

He taught by example, showing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the value of hard work, kindness, and putting others first. His laughter, his wisdom, and his steadfast love will remain a guiding light for those who were blessed to know him.

Jimmy’s life was a true testament to the power of generosity and the beauty of a humble heart.

His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched simply by being an all-around good man.
