William Thomas “Tommy” Walston

March 19, 1945 - May 31, 2025

William Thomas “Tommy” Walston passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Harborview Rome, following a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Chapel of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, 702 Pleasant Valley Road, Silver Creek, Georgia 30173. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m.

Born on March 19, 1945, Tommy was the son of the late Walter Franklin and Rachel Reed Walston.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Joann Adkins and Martha Walston.

Tommy spent many years in Jones County before making his home in Rome, Georgia, where he founded his business, Just Benz. His lifelong passion for automobiles was evident to all who knew him. While working at Jackson Mercedes Benz of Macon, he earned the prestigious Star Technician Award—an honor granted to only two individuals in the United States at the time. His mechanical intuition was legendary; he could often diagnose an engine issue with nothing more than a conversation.

Tommy was a man of great humor, unwavering faith, and a fierce zest for life. He had a gift for connecting with people— whether with Macon’s wealthiest or those with the humblest means—and treated everyone with the same kindness and respect. He was friendly, sincere, resilient, genuine, and determined.

He is survived by his daughters; Lynn (Chris) Weide, and their children, Emily (Cris) Ware and their children Stella and Heath; Connor (Jorgi) Weide; Tommie (Don) Norton and their sons Carter, Jackson, and Walker (Avery) Norton.

He is also survived by his brother; Scott (Terry) Walston and their children Daniel and Ann-Kathryn, and his sister; Spring Davis and her sons, Chase and Dain.
