Jones County’s 8U softball all stars, who a week ago battled back for a district title, showed that very same fight this past weekend at the state tournament in Warner Robins, clawing their way to the tournament championship before ultimately losing to Oconee County.
Jones County, which open the tournament with a 9-3 win against Hart County and 20-8 loss to Oconee County, found itself in a win or go home game early on
Sunday, beating Hart County again to earn a berth in the title game.
The battle to get to the championship involved more than just confronting opponents. They also had to learn an entirely different type of softball too, going from coach pitch during the season to having to learn how to hit against live pitching, learning how to pitch, navigating the stealing of bases and learning how to slide.
In the midst of all of that, Jones County claimed a district title as well as a state runner-up finish.
