ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia (40-16, 12-12 SEC) secured an at-large bid in the 2022 regional tournament, announced Sunday night. The Dawgs will travel to Durham, North Carolina, to participate in Duke University regional.
Duke was selected as the number 12 national seed as the top 16 hosts an NCAA regional. The Dawgs were chosen as the number two seed of that regional tournament at noon. The third and fourth teams of the regional are Liberty University (43-16, 23-1 ASUN) and The University of Maryland Baltimore County (31-10, 12-6 AEC).
This is the 20 th straight NCAA tournament appearance by the Dawgs. With a win in this regional, UGA would advance to their 12 th super regional appearance. The winner of the Durham regional will play the winner of the Los Angeles regional. The higher seed would host the super-regional therefore UCLA, the host of the Los Angeles regional would host the super-regional.
This will be the first NCAA tournament in over a decade that the Dawgs will not be led by former head coach Lu Harris-Champer. Tony Baldwin was named the head coach after her retirement and is in his first season as the head man.
UGA will kick off the Durham Regional against the Flames of Liberty University. The first pitch is set for noon ET. The contest will air on the ESPN app as well as ESPNU.
