A combined five runs in the first and third innings were enough for Clifton Ridge last Tuesday as the Cougars held on to edge Gray Station 5-4 in an earlyseason game between the two teams at Cecil Patterson Field.
Clifton Ridge took a 3-1 lead after an inning prior to each team scoring a pair of runs in the third. Gray Station drew closer with a run in the fourth, trailing 5-4 and had a chance to at least tie in final inning of the sixth before a putout at third ended the game.
Gray Station won the second game between the teams, 2-0, that was contested among less-experienced players on both sides. Clifton Ridge plays Thursday at Lamar County and Feb. 20 at Monroe County with the rematch against Gray Station being Feb. 29.
