The Lady Greyhounds ended their season as one of the top teams in the state.
After previously earning a berth in the GHSA Class AAAAA Girls State Tournament, Jones County powered its way to an overall finish of seventh at Okefenokee Country Club near Waycross.
The Lady Hounds had an overall two-day 593, on back of sixth-place Woodward Academy. Other than state champion Ware County, Jones County was the highest-finishing team outside the Atlanta area in AAAAA.
In the state tournament, three golfers for each team have their individual scores counted for overall team scores. For Jones County, those golfers were Keegan Goins, Kimber Kent and Emilee Lanford.
Goins’ overall two-day total of 182 led the Lady Greyhounds as she shot a round of 91 each day. After posting four pars and two birdies in the first round, she followed that up with five pars and a birdie in the final round to finish 38-over par in 12 th place overall.
Kent opened with a round of 96, helped by five pars and a birdie prior to a final-round score of 102 that include parring four holes for an overall score of 198, which placed her at 54-over par in 29 th place.
Lanford had two pars in the first round for a score of 110 before a final round of 103 with one par closed her tourney with a 38-over par score of 213, overall to put in her in 38 th place.
Although not included in the overall team scores, Kayla Bonner had an overall score of 222 and Sara Utley had a 248. That wrapped them up with finishes in 43 rd and 57 th place.
The Greyhounds Ethan Chancey, who qualified for the boys state tournament as an individual, finished tied for 62 nd in the state with a 32-over par score of 176. He had four pars in his final round score of 89, including two over the final four holes.
That followed up his opening round of 87 in which he had four pars in a row following the first hole including three more in a row on the back nine during a round in which he had a par on nine holes.
