GREYHOUND SOFTBALL
The official start of the Lady Greyhounds softball season was pushed back by at least one day, with weather on Monday pushing a matchup against Houston County to Tuesday. The postponed contest began a two-game sprint of non-region games with Thursday calling for the home opener against Dodge County.
Then, things will really intensify with Ola and Locust Grove being among the first three region games. With both of those opponents being typical Elite Eight contenders, it will be a good gauge of where JCHS stacks up early in the season.
The Lady Hounds return the left side of their infield and will also bring back experience on a pitching staff that is saddled with replacing Destin Howard while also having to replace a bulk of their outfielders as well.
Jones County, a state champion in 2020, will be aiming for its fourth trip to the Elite 8 in Columbus in a row.
Ansley Pegg and the Lady Hounds begin region play next week, hosting Locust Grove.
