ALL-STAR TOURNAMENTS
A trio of local all-star teams continued play in the district Little League tournament last week at Vine Ingle in Macon, each battling through the adversity of games being delayed and moved around due to weather to advance to Saturday’s round of the tournament held in midtown Macon.
Teams taking the field from Jones County were 8-10 all stars from baseball and softball as well as senior league softball.
The senior softball all-stars opened the tournament with a 4-3 win over Macon before coming up short against a Vine Ingle team in a pair of losses as Jones County finished as runner-up.
In 8-10 baseball, Jones County bounced back from a 15-12 loss to Dudley before staying alive around midday Saturday to edge Western Little League 13-12 prior to being eliminated by Warner Robins American 16-7.
The 8-10 softball all-stars fought back after last Monday’s close loss to Western Little League, staying alive with a lopsided win on Saturday morning against Vine Ingle to keep playing prior to seeing their run in the tournament come to an end.
Upcoming district tournament includes 9-11 baseball that began Monday in Warner Robins with all-stars from Jones County taking part.
