Both JCHS tennis teams headed north last week to the region tournament. The result? Showings for both that qualified them for the state tournament. The Greyhounds placed second with the Lady Hounds third, good to earn state tourney berths.
The Greyhounds, who hosted Northgate to begin the state tournament on Wednesday, opened the region tourney by sweeping Locust Grove before edging Ola 3-2, moving them to championship match on the second day.
There, region heavyweight Union Grove prevailed, but the finish was enough to earn the right to host this week’s state tournament match.
The Lady Greyhounds got a good start as well, blanking Dutchtown 5-0. A loss to Union Grove by a score of 4-1 put them in the next day’s third-place match against Eagles Landing, where a 3-2 win got JCHS the region’s third seed for the state tournament and this past Tuesday’s berth in the first round against Starr’s Mill.
