Lady Hounds eliminated by Bears

The Lady Greyhounds softball season came to an end in the Atlanta area on Monday, as Cambridge swept Jones County to advance to the second round of the GHSA Class AAAA state tournament. JCHS dropped the first game 4-2 before the Bears clinched the best-of-three series with a 14-1 win.

Hugs and embraces abounded Thursday night in the JCHS gymnasium. In one sense, it was the end of an era with the Volley Hounds claiming the sweep in a tri-match against Putnam County and Hampton, sending the team’s six seniors out with a win.

Middle school girls win title; boys take second

League supremacy was at stake last Tuesday when Jones County hosted the Middle Georgia Middle School Athletic League (MGMSAL) meet on its home course. And both middle school teams delivered, with the girls’ team claiming a region title and the boys’ team taking second.
