The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Sept. 25-29, 2025.
Sept. 25
Failure to report accident
Dep. Dennis received a report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Stonewall Dr. While enroute to the scene, Dennis made contact with two male subjects leaving the area of the accident in a pick-up truck.
Dennis asked the two male subjects if they knew anything about the accident and both male subjects denied any knowledge of the incident. When Dennis arrived on the accident scene, he observed an unregistered Polaris UTV style vehicle crashed into the ditch and was disabled.
Further investigation revealed evidence that placed the two subjects Dennis previously made contact with at the scene of the accident and also showed signs of their involvement in the accident.
The scene and damages were photographed, and evidence was collected. The vehicle was taken to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office impound lot via a wrecker.
Evidence was collected and stored at the JCSO for processing. Arrest warrants and citations were obtained for the two male subjects.
Warrant and possession
Inv. Hall along with Lt.
Ransom went to a local residence to serve an outstanding warrant on a male subject. The male subject was wanted out of Jones County for failure to appear on a theft charge. Once the officers arrived on scene, Lt. Ransom met with the male subject’s mother.
The mother advised she did not know if her son was at home at the time and allowed Hall and Ransom into the residence.
Ransom and Hall began clearing the residence when Ransom found the male subject hiding in the shower. At that time, the male subject was placed in handcuffs. Hall was familiar with the subject and knew that he was on felony probation through the State of GA with a search clause. A search of a bedroom that contained the male subject’s belonging revealed a glass pipe in one of the dresser drawers. The pipe was wrapped in a piece of tissue paper. Hall also noticed a black bag laying on top of the dresser that had the male’s belongings inside. A search of the bag revealed two small plastic containers with a screw on top. Inside the containers was methamphetamine residue.
Hall took the containers and pipe as evidence. Inv. Hall also noted while the house was being cleared, a weed eater inside the house and a pressure washer.
Hall asked the male subject about the items, and at first the male subject stated he found them while dumpster diving.
The male then admitted that he stole the weed eater from a house in Bibb County. The male was consistent about finding the pressure washer in a dumpster.
Lt. Ransom transported the male subject to the Jones County LEC.
Upon arrival, the male subject was turned over to jail staff and a warrant for possession of methamphetamine was secured.
Sept. 29
Shoplifting
Lt. Carr was dispatched to a local business in reference to shoplifting. Dispatch gave Carr a description of the male subject and advised the male was walking towards Jones County. Inv. Hall and Lt. Carr checked the area around the business but had negative contact with any subject fitting that description. Once Carr arrived on scene at the business, one of the employees stated that the shoplifting had occurred about 15 minutes prior to the 911 call.
The employee stated the male took white tee shirts and left the business without paying. Carr documented the incident and went back in service.
