The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department April 4-7, 2026
April 4
White powdery rocks found
Deputy Dominguez was on routine patrol in the area of New Clinton Rd. when stopped at a stop sign and observed a truck with dark tinted windows pass in front of him. As the truck passed, Dominguez ran the GA license plate through GCIC/NCIC, and it came back to show that the registered owner of the truck had warrants. Dominguez activated his blue lights to make the driver aware to pull over. The deputy advised dispatch to send an assisting unit to his location.
Deputy Steib arrived on scene shortly and Dominguez stepped out of his patrol car and approached the driver’s side window of the truck.
Dominguez immediately smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the male driver and decided due to the nature of the stop and officer safety, he addressed the warrant issue with the male driver first. Dominguez asked the male if he had any weapons on him and the male stated that he did have a .357 next to his right side. The deputy asked him not to reach and step out of the vehicle. Dominguez opened the truck door and released the driver’s seatbelt for him. Once the male was out of the vehicle, Dept. Steib conducted a terry frisk and Dominguez placed him in handcuffs. At that time, Dominguez advised the male driver that he was stopped for potentially having warrants. Dispatch had confirmed that the male had a warrant, but extradition was out of Ohio and Indiana only. Dominguez then took the handcuffs off for a moment and explained that he couldn’t be extradited for the warrant, but they had to address the odor of marijuana. The male driver admitted he did have marijuana but did not know where it was.
Dominguez advised the male that he was going to do a probable cause search on the vehicle. Deputy Steib stood by with the male driver so Dominguez could search safely.
Immediately, looking inside the truck from the driver’s side he saw a clear bag of marijuana. Dominguez continued to search the truck and found a glass pipe with a white powdery rock substance and brillo copper inside of it. Three loose white powdery rocks that appeared to be crack cocaine were found on the center console of the vehicle.
The deputy then advised Deputy Steib to place the male in handcuffs because now he was under arrest.
More items found inside the vehicle such as two marijuana grinders and one more glass pipe used to smoke illicit drugs was found. A field test was done on the suspected crack cocaine, and it came back positive.
Dominguez transported the male driver to the Jones County Jail and turned him over to jail staff.
Hot pursuit
Deputy Dennis was on stationary patrol on Gray Hwy. facing northbound when he observed a vehicle traveling south on Gray Hwy. As the vehicle approached the deputy, the driver revved his engine and decreased in speed.
After the vehicle passed the deputy, Dennis clocked the driver’s speed on his rear radar at 84 mph. The deputy immediately turned on the south bound lane and activated his emergency lights. The vehicle then began to increase speed and flee. At that time, Dennis activated his siren and notified dispatch of the incident. Dennis continued to attempt to catch up to the vehicle but was unable to, however at times the deputy was able to see the taillights of the vehicle frequently throughout the pursuit. The pursuit continued into Macon-Bibb Co.
After losing sight of the vehicle briefly, the deputy observed it stopped at the intersection of Gray.
Hwy. and Shurling Dr. waiting to turn left. With lights and siren, Dennis was able to get behind the vehicle and notified dispatch of the tag number. The vehicle turned left and pulled into a nearby business and stopped. By that time, Deputy Brazeil and a Bibb Co. Sheriff Office unit arrived on scene to assist.
Dennis exited his vehicle and drew his departmental issued sidearm and pointed it at the vehicle giving a loud verbal command for the occupant(s) to show their hands.
The male driver and male passenger then placed their hands outside the vehicle. Dennis approached the driver and observed the handle of a knife next to his seat. The deputy immediately grabbed the male’s left wrist and pointed his firearm at him. Dennis instructed the male driver to turn off the vehicle and remove his seatbelt. The deputy holstered his weapon and removed the male from the vehicle and handcuffed him. Deputy Brazeil took control of the male subject and secured him inside Deputy Dennis’ patrol vehicle. The male passenger was then removed from the vehicle and identified. Dennis advised the male subject of his rights pursuant to the Miranda Decision and asked if he would speak with him about the incident. The male agreed and stated that they were just coming from Gray and going to the male driver’s house for the night. As the male passenger was speaking, the deputy noticed the subject was under the influence of alcohol. Dennis asked the male about being intoxicated and he stated he was underage and had been drinking. Dennis asked the male if someone could come pick him up and he stated that he would be able to get a ride and was then released from the investigation. Dennis then went and spoke to the male driver and advised him of his rights pursuant to the Miranda Decision and asked if he would speak to him about the incident. The male driver invoked his rights and stated he did not want to speak to the deputy, however, the male wanted to ask the deputy a question. He asked Dennis if he could have a “hit of his vape.” Dennis advised him that he could not and shut the vehicle door. Deputy Dennis and Deputy Brazeil conducted a vehicle inventory and found an unsealed bottle of alcohol behind the driver’s seat. Dennis transported the male driver to the Jones Co. Jail and turned him over to jail staff. The male was charged with speeding, fleeing and attempting to elude and possession of alcohol by persons under 21.
April 7
Speeding and suspended license
Deputy Sullivan was working stationary speed enforcement in the area of Hwy. 57 and Lee Rd. when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The deputy checked the vehicles speed on his Lidar unit, and it showed the vehicle going 75 mph in a 55-mph speed zone. Sullivan got behind the vehicle, activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop. The deputy made contact with the male driver and advised the reason for the stop. Once the male driver’s license was checked through dispatch, they advised Sullivan that the male’s license was suspended for failure to appear. At that time, the deputy had the male driver exit the vehicle and placed him under arrest for driving on a suspended license. Sullivan transported the male to the Jones County LEC where the driver was issued citations for speeding in excess of maximum limits and suspended or revoked license then turned over to jail staff.
