“Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights“--Jonah 1:17 God called Jonah to follow Him. Jonah didn’t want to, so he ran from God. But God loved Jonah, loved him so much that God took some extreme measures to draw this man to Himself. You see, God doesn’t want anyone to perish in sin.
First God sent a storm.
But Jonah ignored the storm. Went to sleep instead. Tuned God out even while the tempest raged around him.
Second, God sent a sailor. This old salt preached a sermon to Jonah but the rebellious running man responded with excuses, not repentance.
Finally, God sent a sea bass, a huge fish, that swallowed Jonah. This time God got Jonah’s attention. This time Jonah didn’t ignore God or give excuses. This time Jonah repented. This time Jonah got his mind right about God. And from the belly of the fish Jonah cried out to his God and he was delivered from his sin.
God has gone to an extreme measure to deliver you from your sin.
He sent His Son Jesus to die on a cross just for you. You can try to ignore Jesus. You can make excuses not to come to Jesus. Or you can come to your right mind and repent and be saved by faith in Jesus.
