“But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life“--Jn 4:14 A new water tower has been erected in Jones County. Located on Liten- Tie Road, it is painted with huge letters of J and C, trimmed in gold and purple. Of course, the JC letters stand for Jones County, but what those letters speak to me is Jesus Christ.
This tower gives water to sustain our physical lives. But Jesus, our strong and mighty tower (Pr 18:10), gives Living Water. He told the woman at the well that whoever drinks the water from the well (or from a tower) will thirst again. Its quenching is temporary, can’t quench the thirst of the spirit.
Whether you feel it or not, we all have a thirst for God. Our souls are thirsty for our Creator. And only Jesus can provide that spiritual water to forever quench that thirst. Stuff of this world can’t. When you are saved, the Holy Spirit comes to live in you, and He will be that “well of water springing up into everlasting life”.
The rich man in Hell (Lk 16) begged for a drop of water and never got it. Jesus cried “I thirst” on the cross for us, so we would never have to plead for a drop of water in Hell--provided we come to Jesus for salvation, for that eternal water He offers.
