Sanchez wins again as Greyhounds thrive on home course

Like their high school counterparts, Jones County’s middle school runners had the chance to run in front of a hometown crowd on Saturday morning in the Greyhound Invitational. And like the high school runners, they were among the top finishers.

Running on the two-mile course layout, Isabella Sanchez set a personal-best time of 13:34.79 to win the girls race while the Gray Station Middle School boys were second overall, led by Chase Ham and Owen Wommack finishing eighth and ninth with times of 13:29.73 and 13:32.32. Rylan Fuller was 21st as he ran a 14:04.04 and Camden McWirter came in 29th with a time of 14:24.28. Overall, Gray Station had 16 boys runners set personal records on Saturday – Ham. Wommack, Fuller, McWirter, Lane Schomber, Gage Pittman, Ammi Thomas, Hayden Bell, Carter Owens, Luke Oliveros, Maverick Rhodes, Nick Paschal, Hunter Ivy, Aiden Davis, Abel Durden and Kaleb Arnold.

In addition to Sanchez, the girls top finishers included Sable Teague (14:50.80) in 12th, Becca Durrett (15:14.04) in 16th, Banks Dyer (16:08.63) in 23rd, Catelyn Myers (16:36.71) in 28th and Audree Brown (16:38.65) Personal bests were also the order of the day for the middle school girls runners from Gray with high marks being set by Sanchez, Teague, Durrett, Dyer, Myers, Brown, Brooklyn Rogers, Raegan Prophet, Haleigh Harris, Rylee Brown, Peyton Tate, Aranna Smith, Cadey Snow, Amelia Moore and Clair Allen.
