Shooting charges escalate after victim dies

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

The death of the victim of a shooting in Haddock is anticipated to cause an escalation of charges for those involved.

In a Nov. 8 phone interview with Capt. Kenny Allen of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Allen said a meeting had been set up with Ocmulgee Circuit District Attorney Wright Barksdale to discuss the charges.

The captain said he expects the alleged shooter, Rashad Anthony Lay, to be charged with murder, and his codefendants – Daenisha Kaylia Grubbs and Daisy Mae Bivins – to be charged with being a party to the crime of murder.

The victim of the shooting, Trentarius Jade Greene, died Nov. 4, one month after he was shot. The report immediately after the shooting was he had surgery and was in stable condition. However, Greene apparently was not doing well and had just entered into Hospice care when he died.

In a News story about the shooting, Allen stated officers were dispatched to the scene on Highway 22 in Haddock Oct. 4 at approximately 9:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

He said the house where the shooting occurred is in the area of the local chain store. The captain said when deputies arrived, they found the 32-year-old subject had been shot multiple times.

Allen said the victim was conscious and alert when officers arrived and was able to give them information related to the shooting.

The shooting took place outside of the house, and the captain added that JCSO deputies are familiar with the address where the incident took place.

Bivins, 40, was arrested Oct. 5 and charged with maintaining a disorderly house and being a party to a crime.

Grubbs, 20, and Lay, 27, were both arrested Oct. 18 in Lagrange by the U.S. Marshals Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force. Their arrests were announced by Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece in a Facebook post.

Grubbs was charged with being a party to a crime, aggravated assault, and Lay was charged with aggravated assault and possession firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

All three are being held at the Jones County jail without bond.
