Women celebrate 40 years of friendship

In May of 1982 five women met to celebrate the birthday of one of the members of that group. That led to the idea to meet monthly to celebrate each other’s birthday. To have enough birthdays to last all year, the core five each invited one more person for a total of ten.

Dames Ferry promotes reading while trunk-or-treating

Dames Ferry Elementary School held its trunk-or-treat event and Not So Spooky Saxon event Oct. 31 to show Halloween spirit and help students with reading. Gracie Cummings, first grade teacher and grade face liaison at DFE, said she was excited for both events.

A combined effort of Jones County Sheriff’s Office patrol officers, criminal investigators and the U.S. Marshals Southwest Regional Task force resulted the arrest of a man wanted in several counties, now including Jones County on the charge of drug trafficking.

A Milledgeville man avoided a Jones County drug charge but faces multiple drug charges in federal court that could send him to prison for a long time. Jarvis Vontrell Havior, 30, was in Jones County Superior Court Oct.

Health Department moves to temporary location

The Jones County Health Department building on Forest Street is undergoing an overhaul, and that means those seeking services will be temporarily served at a nearby location. The temporary move began Nov. 2, and the Health Department is scheduled to reopen at the new location Monday, Nov.
