Defendant pleads guilty to theft; reckless conduct dropped

The removal of signs during a bike race that traveled through Jones County in June resulted in 12 months on probation for the offender. Jonathan Lee Hall entered a guilty plea Aug. 18 in Jones County Superior Court to the charge of misdemeanor theft by taking.

City prepares to purchase property; hears trash talk

Gray City Council members held a called meeting last week to fund a real estate purchase and talked about garbage before the meeting ended. The Aug. 26 meeting was called to order by Mayor Ed Barbee with four of the city’s five council members in attendance. Councilman Benny Gray was absent.

Qualifying for the position of Jones County Probate Judge concluded Friday at noon with one sole qualifier eligible for election to the office. Lewis Patterson qualified first thing Monday morning, Aug. 22. As the only qualified candidate for the position, Patterson will be on the Nov.

Man pleads guilty to armed robbery; to serve 3 years

A defendant in a 2020 armed robbery case in Gray entered a guilty plea in Jones County Superior Court and received a 10-year sentence. Briton Deion Duncan pled guilty to the lesser-included offense of robbery by force Aug. 25 as part of plea negotiations.
