City council prepares for LOST negotiations; audit scheduled

The City of Gray’s meeting of all committees turned out to be more of a scheduling session preceding a closed session to discuss personnel issues. Mayor Ed Barbee called the June 27 meeting to order that had been moved from its usual third Monday date due to the Juneteenth holiday.

Piedmont Game Calls, a local business owned by a Jones County firefighter, is selling affordable custom game calls for people in the area who like to hunt. John Peterson Jr. crafts the custom game calls. He said he can be reached about purchasing one of the calls through Facebook or Instagram.

Joint Comprehensive Plan adopted by city, county

The Jones County Commissioners adopted their Joint Comprehensive Plan with the City of Gray to complete the state requirement of updating the document every five years. The June 28 called meeting was opened by Board Chairman Chris Weidner, who also led the prayer and pledge.

St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Clinton recently honored its graduates. This included three high school graduates, one Associate Degree from CGTC, one bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan, one master’s degree from Valdosta State University, and one education specialist’s degree from Columbus State University.

Roger A. Stevens is the local veteran of the week. He was a member of the U.S. Army from 1977-97, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He spent 19 of his 20 years as a Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces on numerous special missions in many countries, including Desert Storm.
