June 11 Corporal Carr was monitoring traffic on the Gray Bypass when his incar tag reader alerted to a vehicle showing an expired registration. Carr initiated a traffic stop at this time.

Jones County’s Water Superintendent is literally at home in the position, having been born and raised here, even graduating from Jones County High School. Brandon Stark took the reins of the water department Feb. 22 and started tackling the challenges in the department one by one.

ATLANTA - Georgia is home to three of the nation’s 100 dirtiest power plants, the Atlantabased Environment Georgia Research & Policy Center reported Monday. Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen near Cartersville topped the Georgia list for carbon emissions and is ranked 23rd in the country.

‘Talking about Math’ at Clifton Ridge

Students in Charm Pace’s eight-grade math class at Clifton Ridge Middle School, have been engaged in “number talks” two to three days each week this year. Number talks are when students are presented with math problems, and they simply share their thinking about the problems.

JCHS student wins Lineman Scholarship from Tri-County

Landon Hewett, a recent graduate of Jones County High School, was recently awarded the Lineman Scholarship from Tri-County EMC. He plans to attend South Georgia Technical College in Americus this fall to complete the electric lineman training program.

The Jones County News salutes the local Veteran of the Week

Robert M. Sumner is the local veteran of the week. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1967 - 1970, achieving the rank of radioman third class. He did his basic training at Great Lakes, Ill., served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and also served aboard the USS Collett (DD-730).
