Suicide prevention group applauds 988

The April meeting of the Jones County Suicide Prevention Coalition included good news about the 988 National Suicide and Crisis line that is due to roll out July 16. According to the crisis line website, 911 began in the 1960s.

Ground broken on new sewage treatment plant

The most notable part of Gray’s May City Council meeting may have happened the next morning with a groundbreaking ceremony for the city’s new wastewater treatment plant. Mayor Ed Barbee called the brief May 2 meeting to order and announced the groundbreaking ceremony during his Mayor’s Report.

Suspected drug trafficker granted $85K bond

A Covington man facing a drug trafficking charge was granted an $85,000 bond on his second attempt in Jones County Superior Court. Jason Lamar Williams, 42, was in court April 28 with his attorney H. Durance Lowendick for his bond request.

Fire department fundraising again

Dear Editor: For the past 41 years, Jones County Department of Fire Rescue / EMA has sponsored an Annual Photo Fund Raising Program to help purchase equipment for our Fire Department and EMA. In 2020, our said fund had to be put on hold due to COVID-19.

The plumber has also started the County Line Auction, a place for people to go to buy and sell things. He said the auction is open for anyone, but he doesn’t want guns or alcohol on the premises. He said he wants to keep the environment clean and friendly.

22 Books in 2022

Katie Hetherton and Patrick Carson completed the 22 books in 22 program at the Jones County Library. These kids keep record of the books they read and when they reach 22 books they receive a prize.
