BOE hears reports as school year comes to an end

The last Board of Education meeting before students ended their school year considered accomplishments and goals for students, teachers and administrators. The May 10 meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Ginger Bailey, and she was first to present her report.

Valedictorian, salutatorian focus on careers in medicine, engineering

Jalisa Williams is the valedictorian for the 2022 graduating class of Jones County High School, and Reagan Hicks is this year’s salutatorian. Both students said they were surprised by the news.

Stone Gable Farm offers variety of meats

Stone Gable Farm, a local beef farm, sells to residents around the area, and keeps their cows happy while doing so. Chris Weidner, the farm owner, said he’s lived in Jones County since the late 1960s. He said he came to Jones County from Indiana, because his father bought land and was transferred.

BOC approves request for quarry expansion

Jones County Board of Commissioners covered a lot of territory at their first May meeting with zoning, health insurance and spending excess funds main topics of discussion.

Man pulled from truck after striking home

A morning accident off Joycliff Road involved a pickup truck, tree and a house before the vehicle came to rest. The report of the accident by Jones County Sheriff Department Deputy Kevin Harden states the accident took place May 3 at 8:11 a.m. on Joycliff Road at Bakers Acres Mobile Home Park.

Early voting off to strong start; ends May 20

Early voting in Jones County is averaging approximately 90 voters a day with more than a week to go before the May 24 election. The number of voters as of Friday was more than 450. Elections Superintendent Marion Hatton said Early Voting will continue Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
