Ralph “JR” Martin, age 71, of Gray, Georgia, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Born November 3, 1953, in Eufaula, Alabama, JR lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
Family and friends were invited to gather at the Martin home, 544 Oak Hill Lane, Gray, GA, on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:30 p.m., officiated by Van Smith.
JR built a successful career in construction, owning and operating JRM Construction and Martin 5 Construction for over 30 years. His skill, dedication, and integrity left lasting marks not only on the homes and businesses he built but also on the lives of those who worked alongside him. A long-time resident of the Macon and Gray area since 1982, JR was a faithful member of Shurlington Baptist Church and later Greenwood Baptist Church.
Outside of work, JR loved to entertain family and friends, travel, and browse antique stores in search of vintage toy trucks and cars.
He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, and his greatest joy in life was being a fantastic, devoted, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His selfless and giving spirit touched everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
JR leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Sherry Martin; children, Damon Martin (Violet), Shanda Cravey, Brandon Martin (Holly), and Dee Martin Wammock (Ryan); grandchildren, Bree Sanders, Sarah Sanders, Paiton Martin, Micah Wheeler, and Colton Martin; and great-grandchildren, Kaidyn Martin, Serenity Wammock, and Liyah Wammock. He is also survived by his sisters, Cathy “Susie” Trammell, Charlene Jordon, and Linda Gale Greathouse; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Kathleen Martin; and his brothers, Jimmy Martin, James Martin, and Danny Martin.
