Competition cheerleading, wrestling showcased for community
The sports of wrestling and competition cheerleading may be different, but they combined under one roof last Thursday for Beauty and the Beast Night at the JCHS gymnasium.
Each year, Jones County’s competition cheerleaders on the high school, middle school and elementary levels showcase their squads in front of friends and family. For this year’s event, an additional element was added with the inclusion of wrestling exhibitions from the Greyhounds wrestlers.
In between showcase performances by the high school and middle school competition cheerleading squads in addition to Dames Ferry and Mattie Wells Elementary, Greyhounds wrestlers staged quick shows of wrestling skill and technique, giving the crowd an idea of what to expect during the upcoming season.
The night, which began with the JCHS competition cheerleaders recognizing their seniors, also featured a tug-of-war between the wrestlers and the cheerleaders with the cheerleaders gaining the upper hand.
JCHS’ competition cheerleaders compete Nov. 8 in the region meet at Walnut Grove with the wrestlers opening the season Nov. 8 at Harlem.
