Clifton Ridge Middle School hosted a heartfelt Veterans Day program last month to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The event brought together students, staff, families, and local veterans for a morning of music, reflection, and gratitude. The program began with a warm welcome from Media Specialist Michelle Zellner and student Ava Smith, followed by the presentation of colors by the Jones County High School Color Guard.
CRMS teacher and veteran Kelli Ward delivered a speech about the meaning of service.
“Serving in the armed forces isn’t just a choice, it’s a calling.
Each of us took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. It is a commitment to preserving freedom. To my fellow veterans, I thank you. Thank you for your resilience, for standing beside your brothers and sisters in arms, and continuing to serve here in your community long after your time in the uniform has ended,” Ward said.
Student Brooks Scott led the Pledge of Allegiance, and the CRMS Concert Band, under the direction of Lori Johnson, performed a stirring rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner.
Students Ariana Abney, Teagan Parker, Elizabeth Dominguez, and Jordan Ham shared original writings that expressed gratitude to veterans. Abney read her poem.
“For all you’ve done, for all you gave, thank you for making the land the home of the brave,” she said.
Parker shared her writing.
“Though we may not know each name, we thank all veterans just the same,” she said.
Dominguez offered a heartfelt tribute.
“A salute to the red, white, and blue, to the ones who served and saw it through.
When I hear the anthem, I stand up tall, thinking of your sacrifice, standing in the face of it all. I can’t fully grasp what war is like, it’s true, but I know that my freedom is because of you. With so much gratitude in our hearts, we thank you all for playing your part,” she said.
The CRMS Chorus, led by Chorus Teacher Amedeo Tritto, performed My Country, ’Tis of Thee and America the Beautiful, followed by a slideshow presentation honoring CRMS veterans. The band concluded the program with God Bless America.
Assistant Principal Shannon Smith closed the ceremony by thanking all who attended and invited veterans and their families to enjoy refreshments in the library.
