The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 11-18, 2025.
Dec. 11
Suspended and expired registration
Officer Meeks was patrolling the area of GA Hwy. 18 East near Bill Conn Parkway when she ran a routine check on a vehicle tag number to verify insurance and registration. The GCIC system came back to show the vehicle’s registration was suspended and expired as well as no insurance on the vehicle. Meeks activated her blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The officer met with the male driver and explained the reason for the stop. The male driver advised the officer that he had just recently purchased insurance on the vehicle just the day before.
The male showed Meeks the proof of insurance. The male then advised the officer that he has a rifle in the vehicle, and he currently has a concealed carry license. The male advised Meeks the location of the firearm. Meeks asked the male driver if there was anything else in the vehicle she should know about, and the male stated there was nothing else. Meeks obtained the rifle and ran it through the GCIC system, and it came back clear. The male driver was issued two citations, one for expired registration and the second for suspended registration. The male driver signed the citations and was allowed to leave the scene without further incident.
Dec. 13
In a hurry?
Officer Holloway was patrolling the area of West Clinton St. and Washburn Dr. when he observed a vehicle approaching the rear of his patrol vehicle at a high rate of speed. Holloway activated his in-car RADAR rear antenna and confirmed a speed of 53 MPH in a 35-MPH speed zone. The officer slowed down to allow the vehicle to pass but the vehicle turned off in a nearby business at the corner of West Clinton St.
Officer Holloway activated his emergency blue lights and made a U-turn and stopped behind the vehicle at the business. Holloway approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop. As Holloway was speaking to the male driver, he immediately smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The officer had the male driver exit the vehicle and step to the rear for further investigation.
When the male driver stepped out of the vehicle, he advised Holloway that he had a pistol on his person and allowed the officer to take possession of the firearm until the traffic stop was conducted. Holloway asked the male driver if there was any marijuana in the vehicle and the male advised if there was any, it would be in the center console.
The officer then advised the male that he was going to do a probable cause search of the vehicle due to the odor of the marijuana. During the search, the officer found seven small packages, which five of the seven contained what was thought to be marijuana. Holloway had dispatch run a criminal history and run the firearm information through the GCIC system, and both came back showing no record. The male driver was issued citations for speeding, and possession of marijuana less than one ounce. The officer returned the firearm to the male, and he was released from the traffic stop.
Dec. 18
Counterfeit money
Officer Holloway was dispatched to a local business in reference to counterfeit money being passed. Once on the scene, Holloway met with the business manager that stated sometime during the day, a customer paid for their purchase with a counterfeit five-dollar bill. The manager stated that they were not aware of the fraudulent currency exchange until they were getting ready for shift change. The manager stated they would be reviewing video surveillance footage to see if they could spot the offender and would notify Officer Holloway if they observed the exchange. Officer Holloway took possession of the counterfeit bill and placed it into evidence.
