The driver of a vehicle involved in a Feb. 20 fatal accident turned himself into the Jones County Law Enforcement Center last week to face the charge of homicide by vehicle.
The estimated time of the accident was 7:21 p.m., according to the report by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Dan Ribeiro, received this past Monday afternoon.
The accident report gave the name of the victim of the accident as Brandi Mare Long, 46, of Jones County. Long was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:12 p.m. by Deputy Coroner Wayne Grier. The coroner listed the cause of death as multiple blunt force trauma.
Long was driving a 2025 Hyundai Elantra north bound and had a green light when the accident happened.
Jeremy Neil Huckeba, 56, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. Ribeiro’s report stated that Huckeba made a left-hand turn from Gray Highway onto Joycliff Road while the turning light was flashing amber.
The report stated the truck failed to yield to the oncoming car that was in the left lane.
The booking report from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office states Huckeba turned himself in Feb. 26 and was charged with homicide by vehicle, second degree.
Ribeiro stated in his report that he was dispatched to the motor vehicle crash with a fatality Feb. 20 and responded in emergency mode. He said when he arrived, he blocked the north-bound lane.
He said a large group of people were surrounding the black sedan involved in the crash.
The deputy said video surveillance from the nearby convenience store captured the accident.
Ribeiro stated the case remains open for further investigation.
