Hounds, Lady Hounds win twice
Two matches, two pairs of golfing wins for both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds on the links. After both teams took wins last Wednesday against Alcovy and Locust Grove, it was followed up a day later against ELCA.
The win against ELCA was led for the Greyhounds by Hayes Miller’s round of 38, Dixon Dowling’s 39, 40 by Ethan Lewis and Cooper Perry’s round of 43. That followed up the showing from the previous day as the Greyhounds had a season-best round, led by Perry shooting a 35, a 37 from Lewis, and rounds of 38 by Cash Bearden and Hayes Miler.
Scores of 53 by Sarah Davis and Ensley Barnes led the way in the Lady Hounds win at ELCA while the Alcovy/ Locust Grove win saw the low score for JCHS set by Davis at 44 followed by Kendyl Thomas and Ensley Barnes with rounds of 50.
Both teams host Stratford on Thursday.
Boys’ track finishes third out of more than 30 teams
With strong showings near the top of the board in a variety of events, the Greyhounds placed third out of more than 30 teams in Saturday’s Chick-fil-A Invitational, finishing as the meet’s highest-ranked team in the AAAA classification. Jones County had a total of seven top-five finishes.
That was headlined in the 3,200 meters, where Luke Thornton and Tyler Marshall finished first and second with times of 9:44.37 and 9:46.03. The prowess from the distance ranks continued beyond that. In the 800 meters, Shaun Williams and Clay Lacy claimed second and fourth place on times of 1:59.54 and 2:01.65. In the 1,600 meters, JCHS swept positions two through four thanks to times of 4:57.52, 4:57.82, and 4:40.28 by Rylan Fuller, Dalton Russell, and Gavin Robinson.
Keith McCrary gave JCHS a top-five in the field events on a discus throw of 128-10.00.
Travis Miller aided the Greyhounds finish with a top-10 in two individual events - seventh in the 100-meter run and eighth in the long jump.
JR Clark and Kameron Karner were ninth in the 100 meters while Armani Norris placed sixth in the 400 meters. JCHS also placed seventh in the 4x100 relay.
