The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department March 27 – April 1, 2026
March 27
Drug related objects
Deputy Dominguez was on routine patrol on the Gray Bypass near Eatonton Hwy. when he observed a pick-up truck with no tag lights.
Dominguez activated his emergency blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop.
Dominguez asked the male for his driver’s license and ran it through the GCIC system. The license check came back to show as suspended and confirmed by Dispatch. The deputy had the male exit the vehicle.
The male driver asked the deputy if he could contact his father and the deputy allowed him to do so.
Dominguez asked the male where his phone was, and the male advised it was on the front seat inside the vehicle. The deputy went to obtain the cell phone and as he looked in the vehicle, he observed a glass bulb pipe with a white residue inside of it. The deputy advised the male subject what he had found and then placed the male inside the patrol car and advised him he was under arrest for the pipe. Dominguez mirandized the male and explained the objects found in the vehicle. The male driver told the deputy that he did not know the pipe was there and he said it belonged to a friend of his that he had dropped off recently.
The male was transported to the Jones County Jail where he was cited with suspended/revoked license, possession and use of drug related objects and possession of marijuana less than one ounce, then a verbal warning for the tag light violation.
Over the weight limit
Deputy Brown was informed that log trucks were coming into Monticello Hwy. by way of Hadaway Rd. and that road has a bridge with a 10-ton weight limit. Brown drove down Hadaway Rd. and as he was approaching Old Hillsboro Lake Rd., from the bridge he saw a tractor pulling a loaded log trailer. Brown pulled off the roadway and waited to see if the truck would bypass Old Hillsboro Lake Rd. and it did. The truck was headed straight towards the bridge. There was no place for the driver to turn so at that time, the deputy activated his emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.
Brown approached the driver’s door and had the male turn the truck off then asked the driver for his driver’s license. The male driver told the deputy that he did not have them with him and gave Brown his name and date of birth. Brown called the information into dispatch, and they confirmed that the male’s license was suspended all. At that time, the male driver also told the deputy that his license was suspended. Brown then noticed the smell of marijuana and asked the male if he had anything on him or in the truck. The male stated that he did not, and the deputy asked if he could search the truck. The male told the deputy, “No.” Brown placed the male in handcuffs and informed him he was going to run K9 Nesa around the tractor trailer.
Nesa went around the vehicle but did not alert to any findings. The male driver was then transported to the LEC and charged with suspended driver’s license, failure to obey traffic control devices, expired registration, driving an unsafe vehicle and no tag displayed then turned over to jail staff.
DUI
Deputy Elliot was dispatched in reference to a vehicle near New Clinton Rd. reported to be in a ditch. The complainant advised dispatch that the vehicle was across from their home and the driver was out of the vehicle attempting to move the vehicle. The caller also reported to dispatch that they overheard the driver saying that she was intoxicated. When Elliott arrived on scene, he observed the vehicle in the ditch and two people outside the vehicle. Elliot asked the female that was present if she was the driver and she stated she was.
Elliot immediately smelled a strong odor of intoxicants on the female driver’s breath as she was speaking to him. The deputy observed the female had red bloodshot eyes and a slur when she spoke. The female was also complaining of dry mouth and was unsteady as she stood. Elliot asked the female driver if she would perform a voluntary Standardized Field Sobriety Test and the female was initially reserved and shrugged without answering. Elliot asked the female several other times if she would do the test and each time, she would just shrug her shoulders. The deputy asked the female one last time to perform the test and she said she would not. Elliot then informed the female driver that he had enough probable cause to arrest her for DUI and at that time, the female stated that she would do the test. After several issues performing the test, the deputy instructed the female to blow in the PBT and had to advise her several times to provide an adequate breath sample. The female finally complied, and the sample indicated a presence of alcohol. The female driver was then arrested for DUI and read the Georgia Implied Consent and the female agreed to a blood draw. The female was transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center where the jail nurse obtained a blood sample.
A copy of the evidence forms, and a citation was placed with the female driver’s property, as she was turned over to jail staff.
