Shirley Ann Rowland Greene passed away Thursday morning, June 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home. A memorial service was held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Gray Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation for family and friends one hour prior to the service. George Sheffield officiated with interment following at Gray Memorial Gardens, 111 Greene Settlement Road, Gray, GA 31032.
Shirley Rowland Greene was born on May 21, 1936, in Byron, Georgia to the late Paul Eugene Rowland and Mabel Collins Rowland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Greene Sr. and son, Walter Greene Jr.; brothers, Winfred Rowland, Gene Rowland, and Jerry Rowland and sisters-in-laws; Barbara Rowland, Doris Rowland, Marsha Rowland and brother-in-law; Jerry Farmer.
Shirley moved to Jones County at the age of eight and lived the rest of her life here. She attended Jones County School and was a 1954 Honor Graduate of Jones County High School. Shirley was Miss Jones County High her senior year and was also a member of the Beta Club, Patrolman’s Club, High School Band and F. H. A.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. Her hobbies were cooking and sewing. Shirley was a loving friend to all that knew her. She was married to Walter Greene for sixty-three years. She retired from Internal Medicine Associates as an Allergy Technician.
Shirley is survived by her loving sons, Terry (Martha) Greene and Michael (Beverly) Greene; grandchildren, Sidney Sears, Sandy Greene, Jason Greene, Kevin Greene; great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Sears; step-granddaughter, Chelsea Evans; sister, Margie Farmer; brothers, Wayne Rowland, James (Rosemary) Rowland and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and one aunt, Dorothy Collins Turner.
