GREYHOUND PRIDE!

Since early last season, a new Greyhound tradition on Friday night has boosted enthusiasm a little more in advance of kickoff.

By around 6:15 p.m., a pathway from the main campus of Jones County High School is lined by the JCHS football cheerleaders, Marching Greyhounds and other fans and supporters with one unified goal: Coming together to cheer on the Greyhounds before they get ready to defend their home turf at Greyhound Field.

In a moment that presents shades of one of Georgia Southern’s fabled football traditions, Greyhounds players and coaches board school buses for the very short ride, escorted by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, to unload near the JCHS campus.

Walking off the buses, players and coaches glide through a parade-route to those cheering them on, just before they get ready to fully dress out for pre-game warmups.

Last year’s first Hound Walk came before the Stockbridge game in late September, Jones County’s biggest win of the season. The unifying energy was evident toward kickoff and beyond..even a few days after the win against the Tigers.

“Seeing the looks on their faces on the Hound Walk, that was really cool. They’ve kept talking about that, how cool that was,” Greyhounds head coach Justin Montgomery said a few days after the win.
