District play began last week for local baseball all-star teams, with both striving for not only a district title but also a berth in state sectionals.
In the Little League Baseball Rookie Tournament, Jones County went 2-3, battling back in the loser’s bracket before ultimately coming up one game shy of advancing to sectionals in a 12-2 loss to Dudley on Sunday afternoon.
After opening with a dominant 14-4 win against Western Little League of Macon, a 10-3 loss at the hands of Warner Robins American bounced Jones County’s all stars to the loser’s bracket. There, a 13-8 win against the Macon All Stars kept Jones County alive for Sunday’s loser’s bracket game against Dudley.
In the sandlot division, Jones County opened with a 10-2 loss to Western Little League prior to having its run end in heartbreaking fashion, falling 9-8 to Dudley.
