Jones County native Terrance Gore has a new home in the major leagues, and it’s worth another team within the National League Eastern Division.
Gore, who appeared on the Braves postseason roster last year, signed a minor-league deal with the New York Mets last Wednesday.
As has been the case for Gore during stops with the Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, Royals, Braves and now the Mets, he’ll be counted on for his speed. He has 40 career stolen bases over 77 plate appearances.
Upon his signing, Gore was set to report to the Mets training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., according to Metsmerizedonline.com. Gore’s signing came one day after one of the Mets’ starting outfielders, Starling Marte, exited the same with an injury. New York also has one outfielder, Travis Jankowski on the IL with another, Dominic Smith, having just been sent down to triple-A, creating a need for outfield depth for the Mets.
Port St. Lucie is home to the Mets single-A team. Its high-A team is in Brooklyn with its double-A club in Binghampton, NY and triple-A team being in Syracuse, NY.
