Softball team jumps on schedule with Midnight Madness

Gray was mostly quiet and in a slumber late Sunday night.

The exception was the softball field at Jones County High School, where the Lady Greyhounds broke through the darkness, making their way to the field for their annual Midnight Madness event.

Monday, Aug. 1, was the first day that teams could officially practice, and JCHS again got on the field as early as possible, getting underway at the stroke of midnight as the clock officially marked it being Aug. 1

Jones County opens the season Aug. 8 at Houston County with the home opener Aug. 11 against Dodge County.

“It builds excitement. The girls are excited to be here and do it, getting under the lights the first day,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Tripp Burt said. “It definitely builds some excitement and kicks things off. It’s good to kick things off with some excitement and do something a little different than what you have been doing all summer.”

The early Monday event included discussing the team’s theme for the year, on-field team building and a fly-ball drill under the lights. There was an incentive in that team-building event as it determined who would have bus duty for the trip to Houston County.
