This summer, the Jones County Department of Parks & Recreation offered a new avenue for the community to take the field in hosting the Grayberry Women’s Softball League.
The challenge was accepted by enough players to field an eight-team league, which held its semifinals and finals last Tuesday at the Morris Bank Sports Complex.
The Red team, which finished the regular season tied for second place with the Royal Blue team with a record of 5-2, went 2-0 last Thursday in the semifinals and finals to win the title.
The Red team won the semifinals matchup between those two teams prior to winning the championship.
That championship round followed a regular season in which the Turquoise Team went wire to wire, winning all seven of its regular-season contests.
