More history: Volley Hounds net first win over Dutchtown

GREYHOUND VOLLEYBALL

WARNER ROBINS - The Volley Hounds got what any team is looking for in the latter part of the regular season last Tuesday when it won a region match against Dutchtown.

The win was not only Jones County’s first against Dutchtown but also the first against a team from Henry County in varsity play.

And even though Jones County lost its second match of the night to Ola, 25-19 and 25-20, the Lady Hounds were hardly disappointed.

“We played the best we have ever played, I think,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Lonnie Wheeler said. “I’m not going to say it came out of nowhere, but I had expectations for us to play well. To see them play like that, is very satisfying.”

After putting the Bulldogs away to win the first set 25-18, Jones County staked its way to an early lead, but it would have to withstand multiple charges by Dutchtown as it simply would not go away. After the early lead was cut to 8-7, a flurry of kills extended the lead to first 8-7, 11-7 and then 21-14. Dutchtown made a comeback, coming all the way to tie it at 22-22 before a bump by Tori Land scored the go-ahead point, and Nya Warren’s kill won the set for good, 25-23.

JCHS, which hosted Tattnall this past Wednesday, plays Thursday at Locust Grove.
